Applegate and Lindsey family genealogical essay, ca. 1870.

Holograph genealogical essay in which Applegate discusses his relatives including his grandfather Richard Applegate of New Jersey and New York, his father Daniel Applegate, his mother Rachel Lindsay, daughter of Anthony and Rachel Dorsey Lindsey, whom Daniel married after moving to Kentucky in 1788, and his siblings including Jesse Applegate, an early emigrant to Oregon. Applegate also describes his father's childhood experiences as a member of Washington's army during the Revolutionary War. Accompanying the essay is a manuscript shopping list with names of Applegate family members on the verso in an unidentified hand.
